FAQs

What's the difference between ADHD coaching and therapy?

1

Therapy typically focuses on your past. It's about processing experiences, healing, and mental health. ADHD coaching is focused on right now and what's next. We work on practical strategies, systems, and mindset shifts to help you function better in your daily life. Coaching is not a substitute for therapy, and many of my clients do both.

Do I need a diagnosis to work with you?

2

I'm not just a coach who specializes in ADHD. I'm a late-diagnosed woman with ADHD myself, a spouse of an ADHDer, and a parent raising kids (one who has ADHD too). I know this experience from the inside. I also bring a background in project management (PMP certified), time management, and 116 hours of ADHD coach training through the ICF accredited ADD Coach Academy. Together we figure out what actually works for your specific brain, your specific life, and your specific circumstances.

What makes you different?

3

No! Many of my clients came to coaching already suspecting they had ADHD before an official diagnosis. If you relate to the ADHD experience, either with yourself or with a loved one, and feel like coaching might help, that's enough to get started.

What happens in a coaching session?

4

Every session is a conversation. No worksheets, no homework you dread, no judgment. We talk about what's working, what isn't, and what we can do differently. Sessions are virtual over Zoom and typically focused on one or two things you're navigating right now.

7

Is ADHD coaching covered by insurance?

5

Generally no. Coaching is not a medical service so it isn't typically covered by insurance. Some clients use their FSA or HSA funds depending on their plan. I'd recommend checking with your provider if that's something you're exploring.

How is coaching different from just reading ADHD books or following accounts online?

6

Books and content (hi, that's me over at @TheADHDBrainParent 👋) are great for understanding your brain. Coaching is where you actually apply it to your specific life, your specific challenges, and your specific brain. It's the difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it, with someone in your corner.

Do you work with kids or just adults?

I work with adults, women and parents who are navigating their own ADHD and also, college and running start high school students needing help with time and assignment management.

8

What if I miss a session?

Life with ADHD is beautifully unpredictable and I will never penalize you for missing a session. A quick heads-up when you can is always appreciated, but no explanation is ever needed. I hold our Zoom call for 10 minutes and will follow up to reschedule if I don't hear from you.

How long until I see results?

Honestly it varies. Coaching works best when you show up consistently and are willing to experiment. Most clients start feeling a shift within their first package of four sessions.
